About Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the oldest and largest cryptocurrency, secured by SHA-256 proof-of-work and capped at 21 million coins. Its issuance halves roughly every four years, which is why so much Bitcoin analysis is framed around the halving cycle. Because BTC is the market's reference asset, most altcoin positions are indirectly a leveraged bet on it.

On-chain BTC fees are paid per byte of block space and spike when the mempool fills, so plan withdrawals around quiet periods; exchange trading fees usually dwarf them for small positions.

BTC is the least volatile of the majors but still routinely moves 5–10% in a day and has drawn down more than 70% in past bear markets.

Frequently asked questions

οΌ‹How many BTC are there?

20.06 million BTC were in circulation as of 31 July 2026, against a maximum of 21 million β€” so 95.5% of everything that will ever exist has already been issued, leaving 940,000 still to come. At that point issuance is close to finished, so future supply growth is not a meaningful factor in the price.

οΌ‹Can I stake BTC?

None β€” Bitcoin is mined, not staked. That is why there is no BTC staking calculator here: the tool reports rewards in units of the coin you staked, so it only covers networks that pay in that same asset. Publishing a page where the dollar figure was right and the unit was wrong would be worse than leaving it out.

οΌ‹Which BTC calculator should I use?

There are 5 on this page and they answer different questions. Start from what you are actually asking: what a past purchase would be worth now, what a position is worth today, where a leveraged position gets liquidated, or what regular buying would have produced. Each opens with the live BTC price already filled in, and every calculation runs in your browser β€” nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored.

οΌ‹Where does the BTC price on this page come from?

Live from CoinGecko when you press the price button, with the BTCUSDT pair on Binance as a fallback if that request fails. The request happens in your browser and carries nothing about you; if both fail the calculator keeps working with whatever figure you type in.
