About Stacks
Stacks brings smart contracts to Bitcoin without changing Bitcoin, anchoring its own blocks to the Bitcoin chain through a consensus called Proof of Transfer. Miners bid actual BTC for the right to produce a Stacks block, and that BTC goes to the people who have locked their STX. That is the mechanic worth understanding: stacking STX pays a yield denominated in Bitcoin, not in the chain's own inflationary token — a genuinely different proposition from every other staking page on this site.
Stacks fees are paid in STX and are low, but the chain settles against Bitcoin, so finality follows Bitcoin's pace rather than a fast layer 1's.
STX is one of the purest Bitcoin-ecosystem proxies and tends to outrun BTC on the way up and fall further on the way down.
