About THORChain
THORChain does something almost nothing else does: it swaps real Bitcoin for real Ethereum, with no wrapped representation and no custodian in the middle. Every pool is paired against RUNE, so the token is structurally required by the design rather than bolted on. That also means RUNE's value is tied to the amount of liquidity in the network — and the protocol has been through a serious solvency episode with its lending product, which is worth reading up on before treating it as settled infrastructure.
A THORChain swap pays the outbound chain's own network fee plus slippage against the pool depth — on thin pools the slippage dominates everything else.
RUNE is mechanically leveraged to total network liquidity, so it tends to move further than the assets it swaps in both directions.
