Using the Bitcoin DCA Calculator

Dollar-cost averaging means buying a fixed dollar amount of BTC on a schedule instead of trying to time one entry. This calculator models that: set how much you put in per buy, how many buys you have made, the average price you paid across them and the current BTC price, and it returns total invested, coins accumulated and what the stack is worth now.

DCA suits BTC for a specific reason. BTC is the least volatile of the majors but still routinely moves 5–10% in a day and has drawn down more than 70% in past bear markets. A fixed dollar contribution automatically buys more BTC when the price is down and less when it is up, which pulls your average entry below the simple average of the prices you bought at.

One thing the model does not capture: transaction costs on small, frequent buys. On-chain BTC fees are paid per byte of block space and spike when the mempool fills, so plan withdrawals around quiet periods; exchange trading fees usually dwarf them for small positions. If you are contributing a small amount weekly, check what percentage the fee represents β€” a flat fee on a tiny buy can quietly cost more than the whole strategy earns.

Why averaging suited BTC this year

52-week low
$58,526
52-week high
$124,728
High / low spread
2.1Γ—
$100 buys
0.0017 vs 0.0008 BTC

Over the last 12 months BTC traded between $58,526 (30 Jun 2026) and $124,728 (6 Oct 2025) β€” a 2.1Γ— spread. That is wide enough that the price you happened to buy at mattered a great deal.

A fixed $100 buy picked up 0.0017 BTC at that low and only 0.0008 BTC at that high β€” 2.1Γ— more coins for the same money at the bottom. A schedule that kept buying through both automatically weighted your stack toward the cheaper end, which is the entire mechanism the numbers above model.

Figures are derived from BTC's own daily closes over the window shown and are bounded by it β€” not all-time values. Prices move; treat them as context, not a forecast.

Frequently asked questions

Is DCA a good strategy for Bitcoin?
DCA removes timing risk, which is its whole point. It does not remove market risk β€” if BTC trends down for the entire period you keep buying, you will still be underwater, just with a lower average entry than a single lump-sum entry at the top would have given you. Compare both with our DCA vs lump sum calculator.
How many BTC will I accumulate?
Total invested divided by your average buy price. The calculator shows this directly, along with what those coins are worth at the live BTC price.
What average price should I enter?
If you know your exact fills, use your real weighted average β€” the average entry calculator on this site works it out from individual buys. If you are planning ahead rather than reviewing, an estimate of where BTC will trade over the period is fine; the result is a projection either way.
What is dollar-cost averaging?
DCA means investing a fixed amount at regular intervals regardless of price, smoothing out volatility over time.
How is the average entry calculated?
Average entry = total invested Γ· total coins accumulated. This calculator uses your provided average buy price.
